The World Crafts Council was established in 1964 with the purpose of strengthening the cultural, social, and economic development of crafts and supporting artisans and traditional craftsmanship around the world. Today, the global handicraft community continues to play an important role in preserving cultural heritage while creating opportunities for artisans and local communities.
Iran holds a unique place in the history of handicrafts. With a cultural heritage spanning thousands of years, Persian craftsmanship includes a remarkable variety of traditional arts, including Persian carpets, miniature painting, pottery, metalwork, enamelwork, engraving, turquoise inlay, calligraphy, embroidery, jewelry, and many other forms of handmade art.
